Radios for events: concerts, races, conferences
At an event the team changes every time, the venue is loud and everything has to happen fast. Here is how to organise communication for production, security and volunteers.
- Authorised Motorola Solutions dealer
- Kirisun PoC distributor for Greece & Cyprus
- Programming and setup
- Support from Thessaloniki since 2001
What to look for
Groups per function
Production, security, ticketing, volunteers: each team on its own channel, with the manager listening where needed. Radios with a display make switching channels easier.
Noise
At concerts and stadiums you hear nothing without an earpiece. Use an acoustic tube or D-shell earpiece for anyone working near speakers.
Distance
Within one venue, PMR446 is enough. For running, cycling or sailing races over many kilometres, PoC radios with a SIM cover the whole course wherever there is mobile coverage.
Battery and charging
A long day can outlast a battery. Plan spare batteries or a charging point at the control room.

- Write a simple channel plan (channel, team, lead) and hand it out with the radios.
- Test coverage at the venue on rehearsal day, not on the day of the event.
- Number the radios and keep a hand-out/return list. Radios go missing more often at events.
Good to know before you buy
- Others in the same venue may use the same PMR446 channels, e.g. technical crews or visitors with their own walkie-talkies. Keep a spare channel.
- Large crowds can load the mobile network, which also affects PoC radios. For critical roles, combine PoC with PMR446 or DMR.
- For radio hire per event, contact us about availability.
Questions people ask
How much range do I need for a festival?
For a site a few hundred metres across, PMR446 radios are enough. If the site has many buildings, several levels or spreads over kilometres, ask us about DMR with a repeater or PoC.
Can walkie-talkies of different models talk to each other?
Yes, all PMR446 radios on the same channel and the same privacy code (or no code).
Do you hire out radios?
Contact us with the dates and number of radios and we will reply about availability.

Not sure which radio to pick?
Tell us how many people need to talk, where, and how far apart. Our team in Thessaloniki replies with a recommendation and, for businesses, a written quote.
