Frequently Asked Questions
Licences, range, PoC, programming and orders: answers about walkie-talkies and two-way radios.
Not for PMR446 walkie-talkies. PMR446 radios use 446.0–446.2 MHz at a maximum of 0.5 W ERP and can be used without a licence anywhere in the EU, including Greece and Cyprus. Professional VHF/UHF and DMR radios on their own frequencies need a frequency assignment from EETT in Greece.
It depends on the terrain more than the radio. The kilometre figures on PMR446 boxes are measured in open terrain with a clear line of sight. In a town, inside buildings or among trees, expect a few hundred metres to a couple of kilometres. Licensed radios with more power and repeaters reach further; PoC radios reach wherever there is mobile coverage.
PoC means Push-to-Talk over Cellular. A PoC radio looks and works like a walkie-talkie, but it sends voice over the 3G/4G mobile network or Wi-Fi using a SIM card. Range is wherever the network reaches, and no frequency licence is needed. It needs a data SIM and a subscription to a PoC platform for each radio.
Two running costs: mobile data on the SIM card and the PoC platform subscription per radio. Voice over PoC uses little data, but the exact plan depends on your operator and how much your team talks. Ask us for a quote that includes radios, SIM data and the platform.
PMR446 if you need short range, no licence and no running costs (families, shops, small sites). DMR if you need private channels, more range and a radio system you own, and you can apply for an EETT licence (security, industry, municipalities). PoC if your team is spread across a city, several sites or the whole country and there is mobile coverage (logistics, patrols, hotel groups).
Analogue PMR446 radios of any brand can talk to each other on the same channel, as long as the privacy code (CTCSS/DCS) matches or is switched off. DMR radios from different brands can usually talk on the same frequency and colour code in digital mode, but advanced features may not carry over. PoC radios only talk to radios on the same PoC platform.
Yes. GPSCOM can help you prepare the frequency application, choose VHF or UHF and programme the radios once the frequencies are assigned. Contact us with the number of radios and the area you need to cover.
Yes, for business orders. We set channels, privacy codes, names and talk groups so the radios work out of the box. For DMR this needs your licensed frequencies; for PoC we create the users and groups on the platform.
Yes. Use "Request a business quote" on any product page or the contact form, tell us the quantity and what you need (programming, accessories, PoC platform) and we reply with a written quote. Every order gets a receipt or a VAT invoice.
Privacy codes (CTCSS/DCS) make your radio stay silent unless the transmission carries the same code. You hear only your own group on a busy channel. They do not encrypt anything: a radio on the same channel with no code can still hear you.
On PMR446, yes: the channels are shared and anyone on the same channel can listen. Licensed DMR radios use your own frequencies, and DMR and PoC systems can add encryption depending on the model and platform. For confidential information, ask us which option fits.
The IP rating describes protection against dust (first digit) and water (second digit). IP54/IP55 resist dust and splashing or jets of water, so rain is fine. IP67 survives temporary immersion. IP68 survives longer submersion under the conditions the manufacturer states.
It depends on the radio's accessory socket. Many Motorola business radios use the 2-pin plug, while MOTOTRBO models such as the DP4000e series use a different connector. Tell us your radio model before ordering and we will confirm the right accessory.
Yes. Consumers can withdraw within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason. Radios we programmed with your own frequencies or settings, and opened sealed earpieces, are exceptions. See the Returns Policy for the steps.
Every product has the two-year legal guarantee of conformity for consumers. Where the manufacturer offers an extra warranty, its terms are on the product page or the warranty card. As an authorised dealer we can also handle repairs after the warranty.
A SIM with mobile data from a Greek operator, in the size the radio takes. Voice over PoC uses little data, so a modest data plan is usually enough. Some PoC platforms supply SIMs with the subscription; ask us when you request a quote.
It works wherever the SIM has data roaming and coverage, because it talks through the internet to the PoC platform. Check your operator's roaming terms before travelling; data roaming outside the EU can be expensive.
Orders are dispatched from Thessaloniki to Greece and Cyprus. Delivery prices and times are on the shipping page and are calculated at checkout from the parcel weight.
